With the start of the new Bennetts British Superbike season on Saturday 31 March at Leicestershire’s Donington Park, JG Speedfit have completed their preseason testing at the Spanish circuits of Monteblanco and Guadix. They are now returning to the UK for one last opportunity to fine-tune the bikes at Donington on the Official BSB test day on 20 March.
Speaking after testing, Leon Haslam said, “We arrived in Spain in pretty good shape after two successful Jerez tests. To find the weather a little bad was not a major issue we all worked well together as a team and made the most out of the conditions.
“I feel we are in a strong place, which for me is a much better package than last year and the team structure has improved massively. So, let’s try to hit the ground running again in 2018! Thanks to JG Speedfit and all my crew that have worked hard over the last week or so.”
Luke Mossey commented, “This test was all about learning my new bike and my new crew, and even with the bad weather, we were able to do those things. I have never tested in Spain in the wet before and as it’s my weakest point, so for me it was great to find some settings we may need over the next few months in the UK.
“Massive thanks to all my crew for helping me this last week. I look forward to going home to my daughter and partner before we do the final preparation at Donington Park next Tuesday. Thanks also to JG Speedfit and all my personal sponsors.”
After the Spanish testing ended, Jack Valentine, Team Manager, reflected on the 6-day preseason test, “The test has been great for the whole team even though we had some rough weather to contend with for a few days. Monteblanco is a great circuit and was perfect to mix dry and wet conditions especially with the weather looking pretty bad in the UK at the moment. I think we can get a bit carried away with testing in the sun and then when we get to reality it’s cold and wet, so we are really happy that we had some wet conditions to test.
“The team have now had 10 test days since the end of last season and are in a really strong position both with the bike set up and the team personnel so bring on Round 1 at Donington Park. I want to thank all the staff and riders who worked through rain and shine to put us in a great place for the 2018 season.”
The JG Speedfit Kawasaki team will be looking to repeat the success they had at Donington Park last season, which saw Haslam and Mossey leading the Championship after the opening weekend, as the 2018 season kicks off over the Easter weekend.
