Places in the Showdown for the Bennetts British Superbike Championship are top of the agenda for JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam and Luke Mossey as they prepare for round 3 at Oulton Park this weekend.
Teammates Leon and Luke, who are currently sitting in third and tenth place after the first two rounds, are aiming for podium finishes to boost their championship points and put them in secure positions as the Showdown looms into sight.
Leon from Derbyshire, who achieved his first win of the championship during round 2, will be hoping for a repeat performance this weekend, while Cambridgeshire-born Luke aims to get back on track after finishing in 15th and 13th place in the races at Brands Hatch in April.
The Cheshire circuit is a favourite for the team, especially for Leon, who secured two firsts and a second-place finish during the 2017 championship.
The Bank Holiday weekend at Oulton Park will also include round 2 of the Hyundai Construction Equipment British Sidecar Championship in association with Molson.
Following an eighth-place finish overall after the first round at Brands Hatch, the Quattro Plant JG Speedfit Kawasaki team, made up of Ricky Stevens and Ryan Charlwood, headed out to Le Mans, where they enjoyed some additional track time as they began their FIM Sidecar World Championship title campaign.
Leon said: “Oulton Park is a really favourable circuit, especially with the Kawasaki. We’ve managed to get a win there every time we’ve been, so I’m really looking forward to going back there.
“Obviously, we’ve learnt a lot over the first two rounds with the difference in tyres, and coming off a win at Brands Hatch I’m feeling quite positive.
“The weather is finally picking up now, so fingers crossed for a solid weekend and getting on the top spot of that podium.”
Luke said: “Testing went well last week at Oulton Park. We’ve dialled in a really good setting with the bike, which is a huge positive and helps build confidence ahead of the weekend.
“Oulton Park is a track I enjoy and feel confident around.
“After Brands Hatch, we were really disappointed with the weekend. It didn’t go to plan and we didn’t finish where we had aimed to.
“The focus is now on this weekend and we’re aiming to make the podium. I feel we have everything set to make this happen. I’m going to give it everything.”
Ryan said: “We’re just back from the first World Championship event at Le Mans, which was really enjoyable and gave us some more valuable track time.
“We’re now looking forward to round 2 of the British Championship at Oulton Park next weekend.”
Team Manager Jack Valentine added: “The JG Speedfit Kawasaki squad have just returned from a very important test at Oulton Park last week and are working hard on set-up ready for round 3 this weekend.
“Leon will be aiming to keep his good form running after celebrating a win last time out at Brands while Luke will be looking to get his season going after struggling with tyre issues at Brands Hatch.
“We’re coming to Oulton Park looking for nothing but wins and podiums.”
